Designer Giovanni Aquila’s interior redesign of a mid-1950s apartment in Ragusa’s (Italy) historic center is part of a building renovation.
The project’s design is inspired by the history of the adjacent Piazza Libertà and involved merging two apartments to create a large new modernist residence, comprising three bedrooms and a large living area of approximately 100sqm, featuring large panoramic windows.
The careful choice of finishes for the living area and the kitchen environment resulted in the use of Laminam ceramic slabs. A large wall in Calce Nero, engraved with slats, acted as a backdrop, hiding a glass door that opened to a view of the handcrafted kitchen. The central island is made of Calacatta Oro Venato in a Book Match composition. Its monolithic aesthetic is interrupted by the insertion of an oak shelf that transforms it into a cantilever table. Natural wood meets the Laminam ceramic material’s aesthetics and excellent properties which was also chosen for the worktop and the integrated sink.
