Canadian House

A private residence in Toronto designed by Vanessa Fong Design: lean volumes and a skilful interplay of colours for a house which interprets the city’s cosmopolitan spirit in an original fashion. Laminam features with its Calce, Collection and I Naturali collections – used for the shower and as kitchen worktops – which contribute to forcefully defining the character and style of the interior.

In the heart of Canada’s main city

In the heart of Canada’s main city

Toronto is a mishmash of architectural styles, a vibrant melting pot where industrial and Victorian buildings stand alongside warehouses converted into art and design galleries and the so-called “Path”, a network of subterranean passages which allows inhabitants to move around the city without ever going into the open: an urban planning choice which is particularly opportune during the harsh winter.
This eclectic and contemporary note also characterises the private residence designed by Vanessa Fong Design, which prioritises square, modern spaces, open-plan areas enlivened with a rational yet dynamic lighting design, and a colour palette which plays on the contrast between the robustness of black, the purity of white, the naturalness of light coloured wood, and the industrial feel of lead grey.

Laminam’s contribution

Laminam’s large slabs feature in two areas notoriously problematic in terms of safety and hygiene: the kitchen and the bathroom. Here, more than anywhere else in the house, durable and easy to clean materials are a must. Resistance to moisture, fungi and mould is essential, as are suitable food contact materials for the kitchen surfaces. These technical features are combined with the textural qualities of the surface to guarantee an unparalleled sensory experience.

As well as aesthetics, for Laminam the sensation on the skin is also of equal importance: the materials must be pleasant to touch or to walk on barefoot.

Three different Laminam collections add character to this prestigious residence.

The Laminam large slabs from the Calce collection used for the kitchen worktop, in the Nero colour, dialogue harmoniously with the pale wood finish of the cabinets. Nero is one of the grittiest colours in the Calce collection, a range inspired by the simplicity of a freshly plastered wall; a versatile shade able to cater for all kinds of style and design preferences.

The worktop in the second kitchen turns the colour combinations on their head: here, next to the anthracite coloured cabinets, the brightness of Bianco Assoluto from the Collection series stands out. A commanding and traditional range of colours, a bestselling series with which Laminam has become synonymous, particularly in the Bianco Assoluto version, ideal for those looking to add a touch of lightness and versatility to their creations.

Collection Bianco Assoluto can also be found in the shower in a different yet highly refined colour effect, its iconic purity combined tone-on-tone with the softness of Bianco Lasa from the I Naturali collection. This is the Laminam collection inspired by the great marbles of the Italian architectural tradition: surfaces whose distinctive element is the earth, and which give form to a new canon of beauty, elegance and solemnity. The light and delicate veins which characterise the surface of Bianco Lasa appear hand-drawn, such is the grace and intensity with which they move in different directions. A surface inspired by marble, ideal for furnishing elements which amplify the brightness of the spaces, conveying an immediate sense of cleanliness and hygiene.

Laminam large slabs continue to defining the style of the residence designed by Vanessa Fong Design through surfaces which create connections, references and interplays of colour not only amongst themselves and with the other furnishings, but also with the outdoor spaces, thanks to the presence of windows located in unusual areas, such as above the cooktop. The plant life therefore seems to peer into the open-plan kitchen, reinventing the relationship between indoors and out, between building and nature.
