Canadian House

A private residence in Toronto designed by Vanessa Fong Design: lean volumes and a skillful interplay of colors for a house which interprets the city’s cosmopolitan spirit in an original fashion.
Laminam features with its Calce, Collection and I Naturali collections – used for the shower and as kitchen countertops – which contribute to forcefully defining the character and style of the interior.

In the heart of Canada’s main city

In the heart of Canada’s main city

Toronto is a crossroads of architectural styles, a vibrant melting pot where industrial and Victorian buildings stand alongside warehouses redeveloped into art and design galleries and the so-called “Path”, a network of subterranean passages which allows inhabitants to move around the city without ever going into the open: an urban planning choice which is particularly opportune during the harsh winters.
This eclectic and contemporary note also characterizes the private residence designed by Vanessa Fong Design, which prioritizes squared, modern spaces, open-plan areas enlivened through cautious yet dynamic lighting design, and a color palette which plays on the contrast between the robustness of black, the purity of white, the naturalness of light colored wood, and the industrial flavor of lead gray.

Laminam’s Contribution

Laminam’s large slabs feature in two areas notoriously problematic in terms of safety and hygiene: the kitchen and the bathroom. Here, more than anywhere else in the house, materials which are durable as well as being easy to clean are required. Resistance to moisture, fungi and mold is essential, as well as suitability for food contact for the kitchen surfaces. These technical features combine with textural qualities of the surface which offer a tactile experience unique in the sector.

For Laminam, appearance is not the only key feature, as the sensation on the skin is also of equal importance: materials which are pleasant to slide your palm along, or to walk on barefoot.

Three different Laminam collections help provide character to this prestigious residence.

The Laminam large slabs used for the kitchen countertop, in Nero color from the Calce collection, create a harmonious dialog with the light wood cabinetry. Nero is one of the most decisive colors in the Calce collection, a range inspired by the simplicity of a freshly plastered wall; a catch-all shade which leaves free reign to the widest range of style and design requirements.
The countertop in the second kitchen turns the color combinations on their head: here, contiguously with anthracite colored cabinets, the brightness of Bianco Assoluto from the Collection series stands out. It is an imperative and traditional range of colors, a best seller which has by now become one of Laminam’s distinctive traits, particularly in the Bianco Assoluto version, ideal for those looking for breadth and versatility in their creations.
We also find Collection Bianco Assoluto on the shower walls, here with a different yet highly refined chromatic language: its iconic purity is combined tone-on-tone with the softness of Bianco Lasa from the I Naturali collection. This is the Laminam collection inspired by the great marbles of Italian architectural tradition: surfaces whose distinctive element is the earth, and which give form to a new canon of beauty, elegance and solemnity. The light and delicate veins which characterize the surface of Bianco Lasa appear hand-drawn, such is the grace and intensity with which they move in different directions. A surface inspired by marble, ideal for furnishing elements which amplify the brightness of the spaces, conveying an immediate sense of cleanliness and hygiene.

Laminam large slabs continue to define the style of the residence designed by Vanessa Fong Design through surfaces which create connections, references and interplays of color not only amongst themselves and with the other furnishings, but also with the outdoor spaces, thanks to the presence of windows located in unusual areas, such as above the cooktop. The vegetation thus faces directly onto the open-plan area, reinventing the relationship between indoors and out, between building and nature.
