Potsdam Station

Potsdam Station

Potsdam railway station is a key public transport junction for the city. It is packed out by crowds of visitors every day, in part thanks to its 24-hour opening hours. There can be an average of as many as 70,000. The countless stores in the Shopping Centre attached to the Station, accessible from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., favour use of the internal space and complete the Station’s public service role.

The station was designed in the 1990s and, more than 20 years after it was built, the need emerged to remodernise the shared inside areas, to renovate the flooring in particular, which had become especially worn.

The GMP Architekten Firm of Hamburg oversaw the original project, with their distinctive take on architecture built on the foundational values of solidity, longevity, beauty and sustainability. These four principles were strictly observed also by KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten GmbH, who designed the new flooring, in the choice of using Laminam’s large-size, minimum-thickness ceramic slabs for all of the floors, pure porcelain stoneware that brings together aesthetic excellence with great resistance to impact, scratches, stains and chemicals.
